About Melinda

I'm a mother first and foremost. I'm also a healthcare professional as teacher and consultant in neonatal care, babywearing and (instinctive) parenting. Additionally I'm a specialist in intercultural communication.

Melinda Mészáros

During the past ten years I've helped many families with several cultural backgrounds and nationalities with pregnancy and care for their small children. I've worked both in the homes of families as in hospitals, first as elderly caregiver and later as newborn and infant caregiver.

Throughout the years I've noticed that many choices surrounding parenthood are often based on the direct environment. The arrival of a baby means for many people: make sure the child's bedroom is in order, purchase a stroller, think about daycare, etcetera. These choices can have major consequences for the development of a child and the relationship with its parents. Moreover, parenting entails much more than merely making these choices. There are numerous less tangible matters that have a much larger impact than the material things one might primarily think of. I would like to offer good information about what parenting entails, and what a baby needs, to as many families as possible. This way, families learn that that stroller isn't the only option and that their baby in the first few years of its life needs the proximity of its parents more than a neat bedroom of its own.

My goal is to inform as many families as possible about parenting and care for newborns. I'm doing this by offering consultations and organizing workshops. Additionally I'm working together with professionals (in obstetric care, among others) to make sure that parents are well informed during the maternity week and are stimulated to build attachment with their baby.

Career and experience

In 2007 I became a newborn and infant caregiver because of my passion for children and those who are expecting. It's my opinion that the moment when a baby is born, this is a natural cause for change. Often this change happens automatically: the arrival of a baby causes happiness but often confusion and insecurity as well. This sudden change has always fascinated me. Many things can be done to make the experience for the family as pleasant as possible, but sometimes a bit of professional help is appreciated.

After finishing my education in newborn and infant care, I gained experience at the maternity ward of a hospital. During this time I've come to realize how important it is that parents make well-informed choices about attachment and parenting: even before the baby is born, but most importantly throughout the first few years of the child's life. This realization aroused my interest in the psychological development of the child in the first stages of life (in the uterus, during birth and the first few years of its life).

At the same time I became aware of the cultural aspect of parenting, by working with many families of many nationalities and in a number of social situations. In 2012 I decided to learn more about the socio-cultural and economic aspects of child care and care in general. Ever since, cultural sensitivity is an important attention point in my work: it is fun en educational to look beyond our own (Dutch) culture and traditions, and to see parenting and child care in a broader cultural context.

For me it was a logical step to become a babywearing consultant, because babywearing has always played a role in my caregiving. After our first son was born in 2016 and I started to experience the benefits of ergonimic babywearing myself (as a mother!), the decision was obvious to become a certified babywearing consultant in order to be able to offer help in this area. I'm of the opinion that babywearing is an expression of a very healthy parenting philosophy, and is in harmony with everything I've ever learned about healthy child development.

Melinda Mészáros

Through specified education I've become a babywearing consultant who is knowledgeable about babywearing under special circumstances. Babywearing can benefit everybody, also babies with e.g. hip dysplasia, club foot or certain behavioral disorders.

It's important to me to offer every family tailor-made advice and to provide them with reliable information. That's why I'm only working according to scientifically proven methods. Furthermore, I'm cooperating with a network of professionals (physiotherapist, maternity nurses, lactation specialists), to continuously improve my knowledge, but more importantly to be able to provide the right kind of information from a multitude of disciplines.
